Our Vehicles
The three vehicles of Isafold Travel are mostly younger than year 2000 and are kept very well maintaned in Isafold's own vehicle garage, by the companys very caring and precise car mechanic, Thröstur Valdimarsson. This is not only made to reduce operating costs and eliminate unpleasant surprises from down-breaks somewhere on the road, but also to maximize safety.
All vehicles in Isafold's possession have names, like a normal human male name, ending with –ur. The trailers for the luggage, and sometimes the provisions, carry on the other hand female names ending with an a: Berta, Gusta, Klara….
The 4x4 Econoline vans (2 cars) are all originally only 4x2 vehicles, but converted to all wheel drive and raised to fit big wheels with very good flotation (especially in snow) here in Iceland. The craftsmen know what they are doing up here, on the Icelandic roads and -non roads- the 4x4s have to be thoroughly built, have to be made to be used.

"Ofur - Baldur" |
|
|
Actually it means Super-Baldur. This is our biggest bus, seating maximum 20 passengers, year 2006. The make is a Mercedes Benz Vario 815 4x4 turbo diesel, a roomy and strongly built vehicle. To increase the Off-Road abilities of this bus, river crossings and snow driving for instance, we put it on big single tyres instead of the dual tyres on the rear axle, and replaced the sturdy leaf spring suspension in the rear with a much softer pneumatic one. The result is a 4x4 bus as we would like to see it -and use it. |

"Land Rover Defender ISAK" |

Our newest vehicles - we have 14 of them. We took the most recognised definite 4x4 vehicle and further modified to an "Icelander" edition with 38" tires, air compressor, VHF radio intercommunication and GPS device. What is so special about these cars is that they are available for self drive. |
