Recommended Travel Gear
It depends on the type of the tour you're going on, what you need to bring along. But if you are partly going to stay outside by the tour (most people do!), this list below based on our experience should be quite practical for you, independent of the season of the year. Once you have got to Iceland you can buy some of the recommended travel gear, like well tested outdoor clothing in the Cintamani or shop it online at www.cintamani.is.
Clothes:
1. Warm underwear
2. Sweater or a warm jacket
3. Wind- and waterproof overcoat and possibly some kind of overtrousers
4. Extra pair of warm socks
5. Gloves and a cap (head strap)
6. Walking boots (broken-in)
7. Slippers and possibly (light) trainers
8. Swimming costume
9. Shorts (optional!)
For the Highland- and Activity Tours it's sensible to take along a pair of gaiters and possibly a wander pole.
Additional Checklist:
1. Towel
2. Shampoo
3. Tooth brush
4. Light rucksack
5. Sleeping bag (can be rented)
6. Sunglasses
7. Sun lotion
8. Map of Iceland
9. Mosquito net (on tours to Mývatn or Veiðivötn)
10. Ear plugs (Ohropax)
11. Camera
12. Perhaps a flask of your favorite after-dinner beverage.
NB! Finding the right bag makes the trip! Due to space restrictions it's sensible to compact the luggage on the sleeping bag tours, and not to take more with you than you really expect to use. On these tours rucksacks and bags are normally more convenient than suitcases.
