Southern Hiking

This itinerary combines the two most popular hiking trails in Iceland, Laugarvegurinn and Fimmvorduhals. Participants (max 10 people) carry daypack. The luggage is taken by a 4X4 van from a hut to hut. A rewarding night in luxury awaits you in the end of the hike, at Hotel Skogar.

General route description of the Laugavegurinn hike:

The trail "Laugavegurinn" is one of the most popular and most travelled hiking trails in Icelandic wilderness. It is equally popular with domestic and foreign hikers. This is not without a reason as the trail offers a great variety of landscape. Mountains in almost every colour of the rainbow, great glaciers, screaming hot springs, big rivers and lakes. Generally the hike lasts four days and the starting point is Landmannalaugar (altitude approx. 600 meters) Overnighting is in Landmannalaugar, Álftavatn (2 nights), Emstrur and Thorsmork (2 nights).

General route description of the Fimmvorduhals hike:

Fimmvorduhals is between the two glaciers Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull. The hike is about 20 km and elevation difference about 1000 m. The trail’;s end is at the picturesque waterfall Skogafoss, at the village Skogar.

Day 1 Drive to Landmannalaugar - Gjain - Háifoss - Ljotipollur
Day 2 First leg - Landmannalaugar - Alftavatn
Day 3 Explore the area around Alftavatn
Day 4 Second leg - Alftavatn - Emstrur hut
Day 5 Third leg - Emstrur - Thorsmork hut
Day 6 Explore the area of Thorsmork
Day 7 Fourth leg - Fimmvorduhals - overnight in 4* Hotel
Day 8 Drive to Gullfoss - Geysir - Thingvellir NP - Reykjavik
