Leif Alive - Vikings
In the year 2000 Iceland celebrated the millennium of the discovery of America through Leif Eriksson, son of Erik the Red, the discoverer of Greenland.

This tour takes us into the saga area Dalir (“The Valleys”) in West Iceland. We leave Reykjavik and drive around the beautiful fjord Hvalfjörður before we pass the farm of the late chief of the pagan religion sect in Iceland. At the Agricultural College in Hvanneyri the tour participants have the opportunity to visit the interesting tractor-museum or the wool works. From there on we drive over a mountain pass to the District of Dalir, where we visit Eiriksstadir in Haukadalur Valley, the restored Farmhouse of the Viking Erik the Red.
In the near by village of Budardalur, you have the opportunity to buy some of the frequently awarded cheese range of the local dairy.
In the afternoon we take the road along the coast to the Heydalur pass, which gives us a marvellous view to the Islands in the fjord Breidafjördur. Before we reach the town of Borgarnes we make a short visit to the fishing Lodge, “The English House” at the salmon river Langá, where we enjoy the spirit of this old house and have a cup of tea! By the church farm Borg and in Borgarnes we learn about the dramatic life of the Viking and poet Egill Skallagrimsson, who lived at Borg about 1100 years ago. Then we take a short cut to Reykjavik via the tunnel under the Hvalfjördur.
