Interior Encounter Landmannalaugar
We start our trip by taking the shortest way to Landmannalaugar, the Dómadalur-route. On the way we drive very close by the famous volcano Hekla, which had the last eruption in February 2000. At noon we arrive in Landmannalaugar where we have quite some time to enjoy the colourful nature, take a hike and have bath in the natural geothermal springs. Also there is a possibility to have some refreshments in a little shop there (not included). On the way from Landmannalaugar we pass spectacular volcanic formations, such as the explosion crater Ljótipollur and enjoy the spectacular view to rivers and glaciers. In the afternoon we pass a kind of an oasis, Gjáin -The Gorge- and an excavated farm, which Mt. Hekla buried in pumice in the year 1104. On the way back to Reykjavik we drive down by the riverside of Þjórsá and arrive in the city around 7 p.m.
NB: Lunch need to be bought before departure or the Isafold Travel staff can prepare a picnic or BBQ lunch for the group.
