Winter Photo Tour
A winter tour with photographer Haukur Snorrason
About Haukur:
Haukur has been involved in photography from an early age. His father Snorri Snorrason, himself a keen photographer and an Icelandair captain, took him along on his travels, taught him to handle cameras and gave him a sense of light and angle. He became fascinated with the art and his fate was sealed, so to speak, in 1982 when he sold his first photograph at the age of 14 years. Haukur trained as a photographer with Skyggna Myndverk in Reykjavík from 1989-1992 and also has a private pilot´s licence.
He has previously published the highly acclaimed Land of Light (1999) and Experience Iceland (2005). He has worked in many fields of photography and is mainly involved today in commercial industrial photography. However, driven by a passionate interst in Icelandic nature and outdoor activities, Haukur has accumulated a portfolio of thousands of Icelandic landscapes which form the basis of his gallery on our website which you can visit.

After breakfast you continue your travel around the countryside with Haukur. Today you visit the area around volcano Hekla and Ţjórsárdalur Valley and its beautiful surroundings. Ţjórsárdalur valley gets it’s name from the glacial river Ţjórsá which runs down the valley. Ţjórsá is the longest river in Iceland, 230 km, and gathers it’s water mostly from the glaciers Vatnajökull and Hofsjökull. In Ţjórsárdalur ruins of old farms have been found. You will visit one of these farms that have been rebuilt in its original design. Ţjórsárdalur has beautiful waterfalls like Hjálparfoss and Háifoss (High waterfall), 122 m high and Gjáin “The Gorge” has beautiful rock formations and waterfalls. This morning we visit the must see photo sights in Skaftafell National Park. The Skaftafell National Park lies between high mountains, Lómagnúpur and the Örćfajökull glacier, an extinct volcano whose peak, Hvannadalhnjúkur, is Iceland‘s highest point, 2,119 metres high. Skaftafell is a wooded area surrounded by expanses of sand desert deposited by glacial rivers. The Skeiđará river floods massively from time to time, when melt water bursts out. Skaftafell boasts varied natural beauty, with thriving vegetation, wooded slopes, and waterfalls plunging into gorges. We also visit the famous glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón and go for a Glacier Walk with an experienced guide. During the Glacier walk we have the option of photographing the surroundings and possibly to experience photographing the glacier from inside an ice cave. In the afternoon you go back to the same accommodation and enjoy your last dinner together. |
